Just Saying It Doesn’t Make It So

The morning did not start out well...at all.  To be fair, our coffee pot broke yesterday and the new one wasn't up and running yet. We are getting ready to leave for spring break, but clearly the kids do not understand the rules that every self-respecting person from the Midwest is taught before you leave on a trip: 1. Wear your best underwear. If you get in an accident, you don't want the paramedics to see your dirty, … [Read more...]

Child Passenger Safety Week Links

It's child passenger safety week and this year it has a whole new meaning for me. With an infant in our house again, we found ourselves back to looking at all the different car seats, various safety features, everything needed for a newborn. Which one is the most safe? Which one is appropriate for 8 pounds? 12 pounds?  Rear facing? Front facing? Booster? Wait, does my eight-year-old still need that? So many questions, then I second guess myself … [Read more...]

Brecker’s Safety Tip: Always have a Water Watcher!

It's here Bunny Buddies!  Pool and open water time! Some parts of the country are a little slower to warm up, but they'll catch up soon! Our most valuable tip for playing with little bunnies by the water...Always have a designated Water Watcher.  Don't ever assume someone else is doing it.  We recommend having a lanyard with the label Water Watcher on it.  Whoever is on duty wears it.  When they need a break, they hand off to someone else.  So … [Read more...]

Brecker’s Safety Tip: Campfire Safety

One of the top ways young children are burned is by falling into campfires or fire pits.  Before you every start an outdoor fire, have your little Bunny Buddy help you form a three foot perimeter around the fire area with rocks or other non-flammable objects.  This is the boundary that no child should pass into.  Help Bunny Buddies understand how far to stay away from the fire by stretching their arms as far as they can go.  Tell them that's how … [Read more...]

My Home Just Became State-Of-The-Art with Home Monitoring*

By Guest Blogger: Alison Rhodes, The Safety Mom Believe it or not, I’ve never had a home security system before. Coming from me, I know that sounds crazy, but for years I had dogs, which I always considered to be my alarms, as well as smoke detectors and CO detectors. Well, my dogs died and, what finally occurred to me is that while it’s great that I’m alerted that there’s fire, smoke or potentially high levels of carbon monoxide, no one else … [Read more...]
