Little Jake (child with ADHD) is an enthusiastic and energetic little bus who always seems to be getting into trouble. He doesn’t mean to make people mad, but sometimes he gets distracted or has trouble with his self control. Throughout the story, Little Jake has very compassionate parents, educators and friends who try to help him get on the right track. He tries many suggested strategies, and although he sees that the strategies can work for other little buses, it isn’t quite working for him.
Just as he is about to give up and is quite sure there is something really wrong with him, Jake’s mother and father take him to the mechanic (a psychiatrist), who explains that there is nothing wrong with him; his stop sign ( brain’s filtering system/self control) is just stuck and needs a little oil (medication). He is encouraged to get help from a bus driver (psychologist/therapist), as well, to help him stay on the road to success. Little Jake is left hopeful and confident in his abilities to be successful and happy.
